What do you bring on ATLS test day?
1. Official Identification
Bring a government-issued ID such as a driver's license or passport. This is usually required to verify your identity before you can sit for the exam.
2. ATLS Manual
Having your ATLS Student Course Manual with you can be helpful for last-minute review before the test or during any breaks. Make sure it’s the current edition.
3. Writing Materials
Bring pens and pencils. While some testing locations may provide these, it's always good to have your own. A highlighter might also be useful for marking important points during any final review.
4. Notebook or Notepad
Useful for taking notes during any pre-test reviews or instructions.
5. Course Confirmation and Documents
Include any registration confirmations or related paperwork that might be necessary, especially if there's been prior communication requiring you to present such documents.
6. Medical Instruments
Depending on the course requirements, you may need to bring specific medical instruments such as a stethoscope. Check with the course instructions well ahead of time.
7. Comfort Items
Water bottle and snacks: Test days can be long, and having water and some light snacks can help keep your energy levels up during breaks.
Wear comfortable clothing, suitable for both sitting during exams and performing practical tasks.
8. Medications
If you require any medications, make sure to bring them along with you, especially if you'll be there for a full day or longer.
9. Cash or Credit Card
For any unforeseen expenses, like parking fees or last-minute supplies.
10. Watch or Timer
Although most test centers will have clocks, a wristwatch can help you manage your time during the exam, especially during practical assessments. Make sure any alarms are turned off to avoid disruptions.
11. Lunch or Meal
If the testing center does not provide meals and there are limited nearby options, consider packing a lunch.
12. Review Materials
Some candidates like to go over flashcards or summary sheets one last time before the test starts.
13. Positive Attitude and Confidence
Bring a positive mindset and confidence in your preparation, which can significantly impact your performance.
